Becomes brittle and breaks in the sun

Coolaroo needs to improve this product. They become brittle and break. I bought three packs of 20 two years ago and installed them by holding three 6' x 30' pieces of fabric stretched lengthwise between the nylon coated cables. This setup protects my yard from the scorching sun here in Southern California. The cables run through the clamps and are loose rather than tight. Despite three claims in the product description that their plastic "is UV resistant to provide long-lasting protection from the sun's rays," ten of the 60 clips failed and broke when flexed, rendering them unusable. Several others are half broken. I think I'll have to replace them all at some point. There is another downside. When I was attaching the clips to the shading fabric two years ago, several serrated plastic pins (two per clip) broke when the clips were being squeezed around the shading fabric. I gently pressed them together with the strength of my fingers and not with a hammer or pliers. This is unacceptable. With everything we know about plastic and UV at the moment, shame on Coolaroo for making such a low quality product. UPDATE August 2020 Almost all of the other 60 clips are now either partially broken (one half of the cable loop) or completely broken. UV stabilized plastic becomes brittle in the sun.
