After losing electrical equipment to power surges (where I live the power can go out if a bird lands on a power line wrong!), I no longer use surge protectors than a toaster. This device plugs directly into an electrical outlet. It has three 120-volt outlets — of course, that doesn't mean you should plug three high-amp draw devices into just one of those devices. There are also two USB ports that can be used to charge digital devices. It's a very compact device, and the fact that it plugs straight into an outlet means your desk won't be cluttered with one of those long, stripy devices. Good device and worth the money to protect your devices.
