Review on DEE ZEE DZ43206 Tailgate Assist: Perfect Fit for 19-Current Ford Ranger by Samuel Hansen

Nice addition to our 2021 Ford Ranger

I've installed one on an F-150 before and while the Ranger tailgate isn't that heavy I think it's a good idea to close it have, just in case you slip when lowering. I found a good video online that walks you through the installation and I think it beats the instructions that came with this shock. It also states nicely that this is exactly the product you will receive when you order it from Ford, with the addition of a Ford part number sticker on the back of the box. I'd rather save the extra $20+ that Ford would charge me and it was stock. All in all, this installation last night took me 15 minutes and it took me a while. The instructions say to remove both screws from the tailgate hinge before installing the new bracket, but the video suggests one of each. I think the video is better here as you don't have to worry about repositioning the tailgate in relation to the hinge when installing the panel. It just simplifies the process in my opinion. Anyway, I used a T-50 socket (which I just bought at my local store) and a small flat blade screwdriver to remove the tailgate cable. Very easy. To make installing the piston easier, I just lifted the tailgate a bit and snapped it onto the side bracket. The gate now lowers slowly - without clapping.

Cons
  • Lots of stuff
