Revainrating 5 out of 5

Hearing sounds I had long forgotten and sounds coming from objects I did not know made sounds.

I'm a 79 year old male with severe hearing problems and a history of deafness in the family. I bought my first hearing aid from Sears back in the late 1980s and have owned a variety of aids since then. All of my previous aids were behind the ears models and included $3,000.00 models in the late 1990s. My most recent aids were $500.00 BTE that failed about a month after the warranty ran out a few months ago. With the recent changes in FDA rules I was looking at aids similar to MaiHear but selling for $1,000.00. I was not sure about the EarPod configuration and thought MaiHear would be an inexpensive way to see if it worked for me. I have since purchased a second pair from MaiHear to use as a back up for days when I need 16 continuous hours of battery time and completely stopped considering the $1,000.00 models. One factor in purchasing MaiHear aids was the use of the application to setup the aids and make changes on the fly. My recent BTE aids used the same app and I'm very familiar with it. When I first tried the MaiHear aids I was using an Apple computer and Apple mouse I have owned for about a year. I had charged and inserted the aids prior to doing the app setup and as I sat working at the computer I noticed a clicking noise. The noise turned out to be the Apple mouse and I had thought it was completely silent.Pairing with my phone was quick and easy and because of my prior experience setup with the app was also easy. I have since added another setup and both sets of MaiHear aids pair and operate well using the same app setup. The app can be programmed using an audiogram and I plan to do that in the near future.Pros: Excellent sound quality. Excellent setup and personalization via the app. Negligible weight. Quick charging.Cons: For someone coming from BTE or in the canal aids the AirPod design does take getting used to. Low battery up time, but when you consider what is crammed into this small a space it's not surprising. Anyone needing longer continuous use can do as I did and purchase a back up unit.Would I buy it again? Absolutely! Highly recommended!

Pros
  • The hearing aid aspect does take some time to get accustom to. As audio ear buds they get an A+
Cons
  • Sound quality is poor compared to traditional hearing aids
