Well Built, Efficient

This is an eight-port (keyboard/video/mouse) HDMI/USB "KVM" switch. It's solidly built and does its job well. (A 16-port version is also available; this review is primarily for the 8-port version.) Four combo cables are included. The HDMI and USB cables connect easily, but you can separate them if you need more space between the connectors. If you need more than four cables, you can buy a couple of extra cables (at Revain, from a retailer) for $10 for two. As long as you understand that, it doesn't matter (just think +20 bucks if you need eight cables). Cables and connectors are reliable. Video quality is good. (It's digital and working, so I think it's fine.) The Switch correctly detects and fixes the EDID, and it takes about a second to switch to the previously seen device. I have both PC and Mac on the switch and both work fine. You can switch using the front panel buttons, the included remote control, or keyboard shortcuts. USB works perfectly. It's USB 2, so don't expect high speeds. The box has a total of four USB inputs (keyboard, mouse and two more). The unit comes with rack ears so you can easily install it in a standard 19" rack. I did, which is why I chose this device over its (very similar) competitors. The remote control is generic but it works well, it's powerful enough that you can just spray it across the room (no need to aim). Whether you have a device in a box or far away, it comes with an IR bug and cable. Thanks for that. The remote control is supplied without a battery; Insert your own CR2025 tablet. You can switch using keyboard shortcuts. PC keyboard) Scroll Lock key, so apparently those of you with a Mac keyboard are out of luck. The sales page is vague about OSD capability (OSD). I couldn't find any trace of it. i don't miss it .If desired, this device can be controlled over a serial line as well as over an ethernet connection (yes, actually). allows you to automate switching from a computer. All he does is control the switch; it does not transfer data. The software available is Windows only, but the protocol is simple and is detailed on the manufacturer's product support page. If you wish, this device will automatically switch between inputs at time intervals that you can set. Unconnected or disabled inputs are skipped. PRECAUTIONS AND PROBLEMS +$20 if you need a full set of cables (order two sets of cables with this box). Or +$40 for the 16-port version, which comes with eight. Connect the display to the mixer before you start connecting sources. If you connect the source first, it might think it's seeing a 4K display (the maximum resolution supported by the Switch), even if your actual display can't handle it. Reload the source (or otherwise adjust its resolution) to fix this. Switching to Macintosh source will not wake up the display if it is in sleep mode. You have to toggle and then press a button to wake him up. A little annoying. The 16 source switch does not have 16 front panel buttons. You need to press two buttons to select sources #10-16. This also applies to the remote control. That's all. Pretty good, all in all.
