Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ Tripp Lite IS250 Isolation Transformer Surge Protector - 250W, 120V, 2 Outlet, 6ft Cord TAA GSA by Jeff Langford

Really isolated with some modifications.

Well designed isolation transformer but be careful when using it as intended. If you are looking for a test bench isolation transformer to effectively isolate the device under test while measuring with an oscilloscope, this particular transformer requires some modifications. Notice the grounded neutral on the isolated output neutral? This needs to be removed or you still have a path to ground even with the hot and neutral parts isolated from the line. Remember that simply removing the ground wire from the outlet does not remove the chassis ground from the outlet. Because the chassis is grounded, you still have continuity, albeit poorly, thanks to the powder coating of the chassis. Consider using an insulated, grounded outlet so that the ground of the outlet shell is not connected to the ground pin. Reuse the same capacitor and MOV and you have a truly isolated setup while still keeping the input chassis grounded for fault tolerance. In case you're wondering, the green wire that goes between the primary and secondary insulated windings is connected to the copper sheet. This is a Faraday shield and does not interfere with the insulation of the two windings of the transformer.
