We recently bought an SUV (Toyota 4-Runner) with leather seats and needed something to protect the back seat from the paws of our two adult Labs. It was excellent to prevent scratches and cracks. I can't say anything about the waterproofness. The material is quite thick and strong and we haven't had any issues with the straps becoming loose or breaking. It not only protects the seating area, but also the backrests of the front seats and most of the top (front) of the rear seats. Our dogs can get a bit nervous when riding so this was very important. It also leaves enough room under the section hanging from the front seats to still have cargo space on the rear slat (important when we're fully loaded and going on holiday or vacation, every little square inch helps). This creates a small hammock for the dog in the back seat. It's long enough to stick out slightly from the sides of our back seat so the dogs don't damage the side of the seat when they jump, either. When we don't need it, I just roll it up and stow it behind the back seat. The only downside I have, which is pretty minor to us, is that it slides a bit on the leather seats. On cloth seats or with a smaller dog, that probably won't happen at all. We solved this problem by putting an old blanket on it for the dogs to lie on. Now they sit comfortably and the seats are protected. Winner! In another review I saw that the instructions were poor or non-existent. I don't know why you need a guide. This thing basically lies on the seat (there are slots for seatbelt buckles in case you want to leave it on all the time) and then you adjust the suspension straps (like any adjustable strap you might have on a gym bag, laptop bag, etc. etc. etc. ) to adjust them to the depth and height of your seats. It's pretty easy. Pros: Good fit. Continuous. Leaves space for storage. Protects the seat from the paws of large dogs. Ease of installation. on topic. That probably won't happen with cloth seats, not sure. I would definitely recommend this product if you are a dog owner and worried about Fido damaging your back seat.
