Worth the cost. There's a probe in there that you need.
This is my second one. The first is 8 years old, still works on its own battery. Claimed battery life of 4500 hours. Believe me. The probe is a little thicker than my original, so the temperature is a little slower. a cent or two. They say I'm a good cook. Not me. I'm just taking my temperature.
