I stupidly bought two of these because I thought they would both work and I had hard drives for both computers. It would make more sense to try one and then get a second after it impresses me. (An even wiser thing would be to read all those one and two star reviews right on the front page.) The first one sometimes worked. I could get it to read the disc maybe once in ten. At least I *could* - then my computer stopped recognizing it was even online. It buzzes for a while but the new drive never shows up in my explorer. So ok, I have a defective one. It happens. I pulled out another. This was connected to several devices and I didn't even get the little light on. A failed drive is how life works sometimes. Two bad disks are a sign. You're probably thinking the same thing as me: this is a budget option, which is a bonus if you don't need anything fancy. Yes: You probably want to go one step further.
