The magnet is strong and holds utensils in place, but not too strong to make it difficult for me to pull out the knife when needed. Very easy to install. During installation, be careful not to get your fingers caught between the magnet and the plate. Can't comment on durability yet, only used for a month. Update - It's been a few months now and still good. I had to change the walls (due to another issue and unrelated to the magnetic stripe) and it was easy to remove and then put back on. Still works great.
