Must have for fermentation

There are several vent cap options for glass jars and I like these better. The seals are good and easy to care for, and the caps and water check valves are fairly well made. They're made of flimsy plastic and can break if dropped or hit, but are great for intended use. I prefer this type of vent because I can see what's going on and I trust the mechanical part, which is just a small thimble that is placed over a water pipe to form a seal. Easy and uncomplicated. Other versions have a silicone flap or device that lets CO2 through and doesn't let oxygen through. I cannot confirm that this is the case. What if a little dirt gets into the damper seal? Maybe it hangs, leaving a hole that allows oxygen to get into the jar. This setup is a tried and tested method and is primarily designed for fermentation.
