love this product! by Fermentation & More

I've waited to write my review until I've used it a few times. I just love these! Kale, salsa, kombucha and a few other enzymes. I've found I don't need to use weight to keep everything under the sole. Just make sure you leave about 1 1/2 inches of free space in your jars or you may start to lose brine in the first 4 days or so!

Useful Information About Gateways

This system worked great. The Krauts didn't have to stay completely submerged all the time. Even after a week, there was no mold on the surface of fermented sauerkraut or beetroot. I think I wanted to mention that I couldn't figure it out before purchasing this product. FYI, Supreme Airlocks that fit the hole above the lid are not filled with liquid from the jar. . The whole purpose of Supreme Airlocks is to create an airless seal inside the can.

Excellent quality water seals with lids to fit any size wide mouth jar

Great product. I have tons of jars of different sizes and didn't want to buy different jars to use them, so this set is perfect for any branded mason jar with a WIDE neck rather than the regular sized neck. Prepare lactic acid fermented ginger beer in no time! I made a ginger beetle in 10 days with store bought ginger and then brewed a two jar batch of liquid ginger base. I fell, took root in a ginger beetle and here we go! My light sugar levels are still bubbling up every 3 minutes or so for a

I love her! - Fermentation and more

I wanted to make a few small batches of mead to test the flavors and was thrilled to finally find lids and locks for regular sized cans (not wide necks). They are mostly plastic but appear to be well made (not cheap and flimsy). Everything closes well, both the lid to the jar and the gate to the lid. It comes with lid plugs if you want to cap them without locks. They also fit in bottle caps, so you can double use them when fermenting on a large scale. I'm enjoying them so far. Definitely…

Must have for fermentation

There are several vent cap options for glass jars and I like these better. The seals are good and easy to care for, and the caps and water check valves are fairly well made. They're made of flimsy plastic and can break if dropped or hit, but are great for intended use. I prefer this type of vent because I can see what's going on and I trust the mechanical part, which is just a small thimble that is placed over a water pipe to form a seal. Easy and uncomplicated. Other versions have a silicone…

Fantastic customization

Make a lot of kimchi. A lot of. We started small and fermented in Ball/Kerr cans. As our consumption (and production) has grown, we have switched to larger containers. After fermentation, we pour the kimchi back into the jars to cool and consume. We've always placed kimchi jars in a large rectangular plastic container to prevent overflowing as fermentation never stops. Thanks to this great idea, we can now skip the big fermentation vessel step and go back to fermenting kimchi in situ, ie 32…

Happy with these gateways.

These gateways are perfect for my fermentation projects. I used them on liter jars for lacto-fermented pickles. I could cook them with regular glass lids. It works out. Using these locks removes carbon dioxide and improves the flavor of the end product. I also sometimes cook a gallon of chopped cabbage for sauerkraut to pack in four quart jars. This project is always easier to do in liter cans and these gateways do exactly what I want for finished sauerkraut. The buyer should simply expect…

THE BEST, HIGHEST QUALITY Mason Jar Fermentation System! Period!

The heart of the lock system is the Masontops cover. It is durable and very resistant to absorbing flavors or odors from fermentation. I've been using Masontops lids on homemade pickled peppers and kimchi and other products for several years and have been impressed with their quality! An integral part of the lid is a thick, durable silicone O-ring that can be replaced if necessary. The O-ring is also removable for thorough flushing/cleaning. It looks like the silicone grommet in the lid can…
