Review on EASYCEL Aluminum HDMI to Component Converter with Scaler Function - 1080P HDMI to YPbPr, RGB 5RCA Scaler Converter - HDMI Input to Component YPbPr Output by Hector Sosa

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Product works as advertised

I gave this device a 5 star rating based on its feature set and price, especially when compared to other available options priced >$200. It's not perfect but works as advertised. Setup is very easy and can be completed in 10-15 minutes. My application was to connect the Roku Express's HDMI 1080p output to a vintage 2004 rear projection TV that only supports coaxial, S-video and component inputs. To get resolutions above 480i I had to use the component input which supports 480i/720i/1080i. I used the HDMI cable that came with the Roku Express and connected it to the input on the EASYCEL converter. I then connected the component outputs to the appropriate RGB video and R/L audio inputs on the TV. Plugged into an outlet, turned on the TV, and pressed the "Resolution" button. When my TV supported the converter's output resolution, the TV screen displayed the Roku output and the current resolution mode generated by the converter. I kept pressing the Resolution button (at 3-4 second intervals) until the maximum resolution supported by my TV (1080p to 1080i) was displayed on the TV screen. It only works for 3 days, but overall I'm very satisfied. Image quality is good (not great) but better than expected for this price range. The video output is very comparable to the DirecTV converter I've used with this TV before. The converter pack is small and easily fits in any small space next to the TV. It generates very little heat and my only downside in terms of packaging is that the converter has a very bright red "power" when active. This means you have to hide the transducer out of sight while watching TV.
