The original STC had a rubber element hanging from the bottom of the mouthpiece. I assume this was done to push the lower jaw forward, but if you have an overbite like mine it's totally useless. I ended up just biting off a piece of rubber with normal use and probably swallowed the little blue pieces of rubber. The STC 2 does not have this part and has been working for me since I bought it almost 6 months ago. Provides good protection from tooth collisions during an uppercut and good protection from tearing the front lip against the upper teeth. It's a bit awkward to speak because the guard is far from your front teeth, but most people can understand me most of the time. I will buy another one when this one wears out.
