The harness allows enough freedom of movement for the front legs. My kitty has never worn a harness and felt comfortable enough to put it on for the first time. He didn't even notice. It's a bit difficult to adjust the size while he's wearing it, so don't do it. It takes a bit of trial and error to find the right size. My kitty is 6.2 pounds so I ordered XS.perfect fit. The sizing is very accurate. My other kitty is interested in looks now so I just ordered another harness. I like the camouflage colors and glad they aren't too thick as hot weather is coming. I am very happy with this purchase.
