I bought this to have a solid state NAS and thought it would be fun to play with. I was hoping that it would be low power and functionally similar to Synology. It heats up a lot, and the lack of a full-fledged case is a little annoying. QNap doesn't seem to like the lack of internet access, which makes the web interface load terribly slow. (My device is firewalled from internet access for security reasons.) QNap is also really pushing you towards its own "marketplace" applications, rather than letting you get your hands dirty and just manage the installation of packages yourself if you're using Linux to understand. After all. that makes the lead role I had for it. but not anymore. Next time I would ditch the SSD and use a WD or Synology device that is out of the way. and cheaper.
