Review on πŸͺ΅ Woodstock D3831: High-Performance Adjustable Block Plane with 1-3/8-Inch Blade by John Shorter

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great overall value.

This is actually a pretty nice tool. It comes covered in thick layer of grease, needed a bit more lapping than a Lie Nielsen, and the brass cap begged for a little polishing, but once it was all tuned up, it worked great. The blade seems to be quality steel and you can sort of see where the tempered cutting steel has been laminated to the rest of the softer steel blade body. Once I honed it and set the mouth as narrow as possible, I took clean little shavings off end grain with zero tear out. Very satisfying.I bought an inexpensive leather holster for it to keep it safe in my tool bag. Its a great value and I dont worry about taking it onsite like I would if it were a top of the line plane like a Lie Nielsen.

Pros
  • Plane blade measures 1-3/8-Inch wide
Cons
  • The blade may rust easily if not properly maintained or stored
