Review on HM Digital C342 Calibration Solution: Optimal way to calibrate efficiently by Jerardo Phi

You must have calibration fluid if you have a TDS meter (and want it to work perfectly!)!

I recently purchased a TDS meter (HM Digital TDS-3 Handheld TDS Meter With Carrying Case, http://www.amazon.com/gp/ product/ B000VTQM70 /ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_11) for home use. This calibration fluid with 342 ppm TDS is required for the flow meter. Although the meter's description says it doesn't require calibration, it's always a good idea to calibrate it. It comes in a very durable plastic bottle that is sealed. Device. So I also bought another 1000ppm calibration liquid (HM Digital 1000ppm TDS Calibration Solution: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FD6WZ8/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0). Many people have mentioned that you can perform a liquid calibration at home by dissolving a known amount of sodium chloride in water. I would like to point out that this would not be a good idea. First, the water itself is not pure and you do not know its PPM value. Second and last, it's impossible to weigh 0.1-0.5g on every scale we have at home. So spend some money and buy. You will not regret it. I calibrated the meter with bot solutions and then measured some liquids with a known ppm value and the readings I got were fairly accurate (within 5% of the true value). Always clean the TDS meter thoroughly before immersing it in calibration. Liquid. Otherwise you can change the concentration of the liquid, which can lead to incorrect readings of your test water sample.! I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU BUY THIS CALIBRATION FLUID IF YOU BUY A TDS METER!

Pros
  • C-342 is a NaCl solution (342ppm)
Cons
  • Slightly dented
