Review on Bluesound Pulse Wireless Powered Subwoofer by Tim Harrington

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Very quiet, subtle sound. ** *updated

I waited to write this review until I got a bluesound Soundbar + to pair and had a few days to work on it to tinker and listen. That's very disappointing. I hate saying this and I hope I'm doing something wrong. If so, I will update this review. I bought a Bluesound Soundbar+ and this subwoofer to replace my current LG Electronics SH7B 4.1ch 360W Soundbar with wireless subwoofer (2016 model). I will be entitled to it. The Bluesoundbar and subwoofer are connected to a wired network. the sound quality is extremely bad. It's great at low volumes, but no matter how hard I turn it on, the subwoofer barely vibrates. You'll never feel the drums in a rock song. Electronica and hip-hop are meaningless. The old LG soundbar almost never rose to 25%. This new one I have is 50% just for TV. I screwed up with the phase, crossover, etc. on the sub. it gets a little better if I max out the "cut" by +10dB, but still grossly inadequate. I'll wait a few more days and try to contact the company to see if there's anything I can do, but for now I'd rather have the 2016 LG Soundbar and accompanying subwoofer than this product right now. *** I opened a ticket and support is checking the logs, but I can say that playing my soundbar and subwoofer from a TV source made a huge difference compared to streaming Bluos directly. So I'm a lot less worried in the sense that I've at least heard what the subwoofer can do and how good it sounds. I was worried it was just a faint sound. Now it just needs to work with Bluos streaming. I'll update the review in a day or two after I've had a chance to play with HD streaming via Bluos.

Pros
  • Easy pairing and setup in minutes with the BluOS Controller app
Cons
  • Very expensive
