Review on Stanley 46-123 12-Inch Professional Contractor Combination Square by Matt Reid

I've had one of these for years and was keen to buy another after accidentally dropping and breaking my old one. The Contractor version is what I was looking for in Revain. I'd be happy to pay a little more for a high-quality device. The product photo says "Made in England". I was very upset when I received the product and it is indeed made in China. It's similar in operation to my old one, maybe a bit stiffer and it can pop out of it in use. The funniest (and saddest) thing I found upon closer inspection were the markings on the blade. It is marked along each edge with different increments: 32nd, 16th, and 8th place. Yes, 8th, not 8. Obviously, this is what you're getting with a Chinese-made Stanley tool now. I can't believe this passed Stanley Tools quality testing. A very small thing, but it speaks of a drop in quality and attention to detail. I'll keep this tool and I'm sure I'll shake my head as I mark eights in my work.
