The clutch tensioner is about 3/8" steel and is heavier/better quality than I expected. It's easy to install and remove. The other is a slot that indicates the people who designed it know how to make something easy and quick to install.It's frustrating to work with something where when the u-bolt wears out and bends have difficulty matching the two holes.The lip of the tensioner mates with the clutch insert and the flat side with the retainer, virtually eliminating vertical movement between the clutch and retainer and consequent rattling or squeaking.
