Review on LG 49WL95C-W 49-Inch Curved Ultrawide 5120x1440p Monitor with Tilt and Height Adjustment by Quincy Rao

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works well with 2018 MacBook Pro.

I got this monitor with a maxed out 2018 MacBook Pro with a 2TB drive. It was easy to assemble. When I plugged in the included USB-C cable, it worked straight away at native full resolution. No dead pixels, I think the colors are very good, I won't be using it for gaming so I can't comment on the 60Hz refresh rate, although I seem to notice it in some videos. The right edge of the monitor will darken about 2 inches like having a vertical shadow. It's not too strong or very noticeable, maybe it should be and for now I've decided to live with that. It turns off for a second or two and then back on, it doesn't flicker or anything, it just turns off and on again. I had it for about a week and I only noticed it two or three times. I don't want to go through the hassle of returning and getting another that does the same. I was even wondering if this has something to do with the power saving feature, I haven't researched it enough, I haven't used any of the software that comes with it, I don't seem to need it. Oh, once selected as the sound source in the system settings, the built-in speaker can be controlled using the volume knob/knob of a playback device such as a quick-time player or youtube video player. So it's not true that you can't control the volume of the monitor from a computer. The built-in speakers sound surprisingly decent considering the design. You can't see it at all, and the sound comes in full stereo from the bottom of the monitor. Definitely good for any reference rendition. I use this monitor to write music, so I already have a really good speaker system with a USB-C audio interface. But built-in speakers really come in handy for tutorial videos, YouTube or news clips. When used with Logic Pro X, I really like the extra screen real estate. The ability to open multiple windows side by side is very practical. Overall this monitor works very well for me and I really like it. I keep it now :)
