Great Value - Rim Brake Kits

These brakes are clearly not high quality. They are stamped or formed and have raw edges of shapes. It took a bit of adjustment to get them right on the frame and fork but once in they work really well. How durable they are remains to be seen, but I'm still impressed with their stopping power. The flare nuts on the brake pads are pretty flimsy - the cap came loose on two of them when I tightened them, but that doesn't affect their functionality, just the aesthetics. You can see where the caps came off in the photo of the front brake. The right shows why - the threaded bolt of the brake shoe screw is too long for the union nut. I added one on the left that I had lying around. I bought these for an old Motobecane Grand Touring bike that required thru-bolt brakes. I prefer side bars and don't need high quality thru-bolt side bars which are hard to find anyway and were very cheap - even if you replace the flare nuts. When you get them, expect to play with them to get them the way you want them - functionally and aesthetically - and I wouldn't complain at this <$10 price point.
