I bought these pens with absolutely no expectations. I have almost all brands of pencils, from the most expensive to the cheapest. Pencils that look like they have almost no pigment to pencils that appear to be made entirely of pigment. After trying all these pens; I've learned that a really good professional pen doesn't have to cost a fortune. Even though I have expensive pencils, I rarely use them because there are so many options on the market now that cost a cent a pencil instead of a few dollars a pencil and do exactly the same great job. Thorton pencils are such a pencil. I will use mine almost every day along with a few others in their price range. The soft quill pens in this set have a large soft tip similar to Polychromos. Such a large core takes some getting used to, but they are beautiful. They apply pigment with relative ease and rarely require sharpening. Both the names and colors are printed on the body of the soft pens (the rest if there are no names and numbers on the pens in the set. I just use a black permanent marker and number mine). Metal pins are triangular in shape. I've never seen such a wide range of colors in metallic pens (there are 18 of them). There are 4 neon pens, more than enough for me as I rarely use them. There is a good selection of graphite pencils for drawing. (of which 15). A great set for those who love to draw. The set also includes 3 charcoal pencils for your drawing pleasure. Finally, there are 48 watercolor pencils (water soluble). As I've already noticed, there are no names or numbers on it, but that's easily remedied with a black permanent marker. When making color swatches with them I was pleasantly surprised at how they activated and the colors really 'bloomed' or came to life with the water. I would suggest adding a water brush to the set. This is a truly beautiful set that would make a wonderful gift for any colorist or artist. I am very happy with my purchase and will completely replace it if I use it. It's a shame that I've tried this for a long time. Great value for money.
