This set of charcoal pencils has a number of benefits. They arrived well packaged and undamaged. There is a good selection of soft, medium and hard pens, allowing the artist to choose the level of blending they desire. My biggest disappointment, which may seem minor, is that they arrived unsharpened. I see some value in this as some people like to sharpen their own pencils with blades and sandpaper. I'm not one of those people. I have a variety of pencil sharpeners, but I've had a hard time sharpening one of them. It seemed to me that I could only get to the most boring points, and then sometimes only after a couple of glitches. I opted for matte dots and sandpaper to get them in the right spot. Not being a charcoal expert, I might have thought that's exactly what charcoal sticks are. However, I have one or two well-known brands and they have good qualities. Therefore they lose a star on my rating scale.
