2017 RAV4 Install -Qualification for Install: I worked as an apprentice mechanic/Auto Tech (mostly head gaskets for the master engine tech) and at a couple quick service stations (so I understand how nuts and bolts are supposed to work).From the start these weren't exactly a great fit (lots of play) nor did the quality seem convincing (way to much plastic to comfortably haul a 80lb canoe on the highway for any appreciable distance). I questioned returning them as soon as I got them. - - I wish I had!The images in the review with the white SUV from Aug. 2021 are not the same product that I received. I bought mine March of 2022.The cross bars are aluminum but the rest of the hardware is a soft plastic that will hand tighten. I could never get the "wobble" out of the cross bars and wound up overtightening one of them. The instructions do explicitly say not to overtighten (because everything minus the cross bars are a soft plastic). I'm assuming the "play" is normal and the weight of cargo will prevent slippage, but doing an install per the instructions left me very nervous that my cargo would slide off the vehicle.The next rack that I get will be purchased in person so that I can inspect the quality of the materials - before - purchase.
