This product is essential for finding shorts in 24VAC wiring. Simply install it in place of the 3A fuse, disconnect the wiring from the thermostat/AC condenser unit and power up the unit. If the indicator lights up, the circuit board is defective. If the indicator is off, connect the thermostat/condenser unit wires one at a time. If you connect the cable and the indicator lights up, it is a short circuit! The tool will reset when the short is cleared, and when shorted it will limit the current to 3 amps so you can't damage the gear! You can troubleshoot without damaging devices or blowing many fuses. Once you've eliminated the short circuit, remove the device and put a 3A fuse in its place.
