My 5 year old wears size 5/6 trousers so I ordered a size 7. They are a little roomy at the waist and a little long but have a functional drawstring at the waist and it will grow in them. He goes to a private school in PNW where they are outside rain or sun, cold or heat. We liked them so much I ordered another pair, one for home and one for school.
