I am an electrical engineer and needed a ruler to work on electrical equipment. This entire line is made of nylon-reinforced fiberglass and is non-conductive, according to Klein. There is a small stainless steel spring at the junction of each segment, but it is recessed and unlikely to touch anything dangerous. The ruler segments can be easily opened with little effort and locked in a 90 or 180 degree position. I prefer rulers for reading inside, as most of the time I measure relative to the surface of a panel or wall, which means the extended portion of the ruler lies flat on the surface starting at "0". The folded ruler is 8" long, 2" wide and 3/4" thick and fits easily in a back pocket. Being made of fiberglass it is easy to clean, waterproof and should not stain with normal use. The Numbers and lines are engraved so they don't rub off over time. There is a red mark every 16". The length of the ruler is a full six feet; When fully extended, it flexes slightly when facing with the flat side held up but doesn't flex at all if used edge up Make sure you open and dry it after you get back in. Generally an excellent measuring ruler for all conditions.
