Complicated - incomprehensible instructions, waste of material

At the price, I had imagined the instructions to be much clearer and simpler. I followed my first block (I'm no expert but I've been sewing for decades so I know a thing or two about sewing) - and it was time consuming and hard to figure out what to do. Also, there was a lot of fabric waste! Instead of cutting and trimming oversized squares, why not just trim the corner squares to size and then trim as you sew. not at all my favorite quilt square.
