Find the right sharpener

Will not fit any of my healthy pencil sharpeners, electric, hand and desktop but comes with a small plastic two hole sharpener that will fit one. Using a proper sharpening hole leaves a tip with a rugged, uncomplicated tip, and to get a good tip takes a lot of real estate chewing to get it right. Lead quality is ok. I thought maybe I was getting something beneficial compared to the Blackwing Pearl, but we're actually talking apples and oranges. Which is funny, because this pencil sharpens about as well as an apple. Although the triangular shape is good. ***Update: After further consideration, after pencil after pencil sharpening the stub in a vain attempt to get a viable point, and an embarrassing episode of paroxysmal pencil snapping, I think I'll downgrade to one star. It's possible to get something similar to a regular tip by pressing a pencil against one side of the sharpener, but even with this workaround, the lead will often snap off the blade, leaving a nick on the side of the lead that's going to leads to fracture. I considered mounting the pencil on a lathe to get a decent sharpness, but to be honest it felt like down a rabbit hole in a steampunk pencil craze. This is very bad, since the shape and texture of the hull are practical innovations. Here's a request to Ticonderoga: Design of a triangular socket for a special sharpener that allows for a two-stage sharpening process. Larger diameter hole with two or three blades for shaving small lengths of triangular ridges in front of the sharpening hole. On the other hand, perhaps the triangular shaft of a pencil is like a cat's saddle. At the time, this seemed like a good idea. mea culpa, the pencils actually fit the sharpener I have in my garage, which has a moveable scale with holes of different sizes. This is how the pencils are made in the garage so they can be close to the shaper I have working with them. So four or five stars for the handle, three for the line, one for ease of sharpening. Let's call it 3.4 stars so I don't have to round up to four.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
