This is a small disposable tool that doesn't take up much space in the tool box. . It goes over the top of the strawberry and you just press down and it slices the strawberry into quarters. The tip and core will separate. Sometimes when I use it I get a little green on the piece but usually it's just a very odd shaped strawberry or I didn't center it. It's easy enough for a kid and safe enough for a responsible kid; Only one side is slightly sharp, certainly not as sharp as a dull knife. It's also easy to wash. In terms of time, it lasts as long as a knife. The knife produces about the same amount of waste - I don't find this tool too wasteful. This is good if you want strawberry quarters or are satisfied or if you have a young helper.
