Received my first set of these needles yesterday afternoon. I immediately put on a sock and by late evening I was almost ready to start heeling. Here are my honest thoughts on sock knitting. I am an avid knitter and only knit top down. I know my pattern in my head and I knit DPN quickly. It took me about 5 rows of 64 stitches to get used to these needles. I held the back needle with the tips between the thumb and forefinger of each hand. It's similar to what I do with DPN, so it wasn't new to me. I really think I knitted faster with these needles. However, I wish there was a fourth needle. I prefer to keep the slip stitches on a single needle when knitting pleats. If I start at the back of the heel and knit to the point where I need to decrease, I need to put a mark there to remember and then knit half the instep and then switch to the second needle and knit to the second . Mark where I decrease SSK and then work down to center back of heel where my round begins. This may not make sense to you, but it is much easier to cast off the gusset with all sts on 3 needles than on 2 needles. I will buy a second set of these needles for knitting socks. I also knit a lot of chemo hats and am currently using DPN for the pleats around the top of the hat. I doubt I will use these needles for this purpose. Needles are expensive; However, they are smooth, which is difficult with thin sock yarn for the first 3-4 rows. After that I don't have a problem with the stitches falling off the needles as some people say. I think I'll like these needles better when I get the second set, so I'll have 4 needles for the gussets of my socks. I have a lot of Addi needles and love them. I love the fact that these needles have a blunt end on the other end as well as a rocket tip. This comes in handy when knitting tiny sock yarn. I have no issues with DPNs and since I have no issues they seem fine. I love learning and trying new instruments so if you're like me buy a set and give it a try. If you hate DPNs, you might like this, but I'm here to tell you that handling needlepoints that you don't use is something you still have to learn. If you don't like messing around with a pair of 40" Magic Loop cords or socks, you'll love these needles. I think most people don't spend enough time trying new things. It takes time to get used to something new, so let me guess you'll like them as much as I do.
