I've been looking forward to using these containers for everything - flour, tea, catnip, sundries. When I opened the box and got to the lids, I smelled a strange chemical burn odor. I soaked them for hours and the smell is still there. I admit that I deal with an oversensitivity to things like perfumes, artificial flavors and colors. This may be why I notice such a strong odor on my eyelids, so your individual experience may vary. My mother and husband also smell, but not as much as I do. Even if you're lucky enough not to notice the odd smell, it's obvious that something is odd about the lid seal. I really don't want this to ruin my haberdashery. I'll be returning them and looking for something less sketchy.
