I really wanted to like this little device. Although I believe the app that controls this just isn't ready for prime time. Installation is fairly easy, although instructions are minimal. My iPad had trouble finding HomeMate's wireless signal, but eventually found it. You must have an account, so be prepared to provide an email. My biggest complaint is that you don't get a remote control in one interface. They create custom remote controls for your devices, set top boxes, AVRs, TVs, etc. You then have to go home to toggle between changing channels on the set top box and controlling the volume on the AVR. Want to use apps on your TV? Return Home, Select TV Remote, Return Home, Select AVR Remote to control the volume. aggravating. You can create scenes to say turn on your devices and set a specific input. It worked well, but that's about it. You still have to go back to your remotes to control anything. While I agree, the keys you programmed don't work half the time. You can program common channels on the set-top box remote control, but in most cases only the first number is entered. Not the channel I wanted. There are two ways to program the remote, select the device and manufacturer, or copy the buttons. The first method gives you a kind of universal remote control with a couple of buttons that you won't be using on this device. I tried copying the button method but after six buttons I was able to add another button but the new button was not recognized. Very frustrating. I tried adding my own remote but half the buttons just didn't work or the device didn't save them. A cheap device, but in my experience not at all functional for a home cinema. USB powered but no adapter, just a cable so hopefully you have a spare lying around or ready to poach it from another device. Don't waste your time and money with this business. It is not worth. Will return.
