Review on DEKOPRO Welding Powered Darkening Adjustable by Eddie Kittylovin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The helmet is ok and worth the money but requires disassembly after a few months due to the plastic wrap and some imperfections.

When I first got the helmet I couldn't see well when welding and the filter wasn't enough even after I removed the protective film on the outside had removed . I started disassembling and found that there was plastic left inside that was never removed. I was shocked by this and wondered why the inner plastic was never removed during factory assembly and was never mentioned in the instructions that came with it. After I removed the plastic everything was crisp and clear when welding and there is a setting for maximum darkness when welding and it can be set for only cutting with a flashlight and it's easy to see through the filter at night. Sensitivity can also be adjusted, but if it's too sensitive, the filter will flicker before turning off. Great value, features and value, but if you need something turnkey that you don't want to take apart for quality assurance, look elsewhere. I personally recommend and will buy this brand again. (5 stars on 05/11/2019.) Update 10/11/19 5 months later there were some bugs that didn't break protection but were still annoying. First, the headgear screws can loosen when the helmet is moved. (and get lost if you're not careful) 2. The headgear screws prevent the helmet from pivoting and staying right. It's either too loose to stay in place or too tight to twist, and there's nothing in between. (So buy this replacement headgear with your helmet to keep it working properly: Antra APX-XXX-9979 Auto-Dark Welding Helmet Headgear, $13, and it looks like it's worth every penny right now. You just need to take a 1/8" awl or drill and enlarge one of the holes to keep the headband from moving). Third, you can't place the light too close at night, otherwise the welding filter will work and think you're welding. I imagine a higher quality helmet would have worked better but I was expecting more quality for the $ to at least keep the helmet hinge tight and the screws stay inside. I'd say bring a helmet, spare headgear, and a spare 4.3" x 3.5" welding filter cartridge ($12-16) if you weld occasionally, but get a better mask if you do more want to weld. . That said, since May I've already used over 25# MIG wires, so I use a welder pretty actively because I don't have a career as a welder. I would suggest getting it if you don't have the money for $$ but it won't surprise you and you'll want something better. (It's still better than the manually pop-up welding helmet filter.)

Pros
  • SMART, PRACTICAL AND AFFORDABLE: Auto-darkening filter (ADF DX-500S) allows welders to adapt to different working conditions by controlling lens shading with sensitivity adjustment of ambient light sources; battery operated with solar energy for long life (up to 5000 hours)
Cons
  • So far so good
