Those 1200 watts will heat 1000 gallons of water.

I will be from Indiana in mid-May. I have 1200 watts. It is currently heating my 1100 gallon pool on its own in my cold 55 degree basement. This water had a temperature of 55 degrees. Now after a few days of warming up it's 80 degrees. I don't know about durability but this 1200w heater won't play games. It's great at the moment!
