Review on πŸ”Š Philips AS140/37 Fidelio Bluetooth Speaker with Micro-USB Dock: Premium Wireless Audio Experience by Megan Gardner

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great hardware, but no software!

The reason I bought this is because I wanted an alarm clock that would allow me to set an alarm from my phone. I wanted to be able to just set an alarm on my phone and plug it in so that in the morning the alarm would be loud enough to wake me up and my phone would be fully charged. Here are some of my findings: The fidelio app is TERRIBLE. It freezes all the time and it's so illogical. It prompts you to download Songbird when you first launch it, which I didn't because my phone already has a music app I like (Google Music). The paper instructions don't tell you how to actually perform the functions, just how to install the app. There are two alarms that can only be set on the physical watch, others can be set on the phone. When you set the first two alarms, indicators appear on the watch so you can immediately see that the alarm is on. If you prefer to set alarms on your phone, no indicators are shown, so you'll need to check the app to be sure. I can't say enough about how awful this app is. I ONLY use it to set the time. Download the app and connect via Bluetooth and the watch will sync the time. I'll keep the app on my phone just to keep the time in sync. The sound is amazing for this speaker size. I love it! At first I wanted to give 4 stars because of the terrible Fidelio app but I just can't. It's on my computer desk and I don't even use computer speakers for music. I'd rather dock my phone and use that. The docking station looks flimsy at first glance, but that's only because it's extremely adjustable. The connector can move in any direction you want and has supports on either side of the micro USB connector. They can be adjusted up or down. So if your phone has a case, you can lower the legs to make room for it. My Settings: I use my regular Google Music app for regular music playback. I prefer that to the advertised Songbird. You can also use Pandora or any other music app. Your phone connects via Bluetooth, making any app suitable for easy music playback. For the alarm clock, I also use the default alarm clock app on my phone. I found that as long as your phone is connected via Bluetooth, the alarm plays through the speaker. I have the Fidelio app installed so if the power goes out the time will be automatically synced the next time I plug in my phone. Any other time when my phone is docked, I'd have the Weather app open just to check something out. IMPORTANT: If you use the fidelio app and the power goes out at night, your alarm clock will not work! Your phone loses connection to the speaker so it doesn't wake you up. However, if you use your own alarm clock, you will still be woken up! This is because the stock Android clock app doesn't require a speaker to be connected. So if the power goes out at night your phone will lose connection to the Phillips speaker but will still play the alarm through the phone's own speakers. I hope this review helps someone!
