Review on πŸ”§ Fiberglass Gasket Cement Cartridge for Rutland by John Destruction

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent quality product. Works as intended

I have an old wood stove with a 1.5" gap so I had to install two 3/4" ropes side by side. The glue is thin, black, sticky and gets messy. If you put on clothes, they will be stained forever. Of course, start with a room temperature (or cold) wood stove. bare shiny metal. I tried on two ropes and cut them to make sure they were slack enough to bend when the door slammed shut. Make a diagonal cut in the sealing tube near the tip. The glue is quite thin (-1 star) and can get a little dirty. I recommend starting with a smaller incision to control. You can crop and enlarge it again at any time. So thin that it should have no problem sticking to cold metal provided it's dry. I sprayed liberally on 3 sides of the metal and pressed the fiberglass rope into place. Have plenty of paper towels on hand as they can get dirty. Where the ropes met I made sure to cover the worn ends with glue and crimped them together. Closing the door will likely cause some of the glue to ooze out, so wipe it off with paper towels. A caulking gun-sized tube is more than enough for a large fireplace door. Probably enough for 2 small fireplace doors. At this point the glue should be in the shape you want it to stay in forever. It will cure, so make sure there aren't any spots that could turn into rough or sharp edges as it cures. After checking the suitability, I lit a small fire and kept adding more wood for the next 6 hours until I finally had a hot fire. . I let the fire burn out and checked my work the next morning. The glue turned into a hard cement and kept its shape perfectly. Several months have passed and many hot fires have passed without affecting the quality of the product. Recommend, A+
