uses good old AAA batteries

I was looking for one for my mother who is blind and hard of hearing. It's small, uses good old AAA batteries, and has a clip. but it has its design flaws. Let me give you a short list of pros here: 1. small. 2. vibrates, beeps and flashes. 3. With the switch on the back you can set minutes/seconds or hours/minutes. 4. Light, vibration and buzzer can be turned on/off with the switches on the back. Cons: 1. These switches on the back are recessed, making them difficult to find for the visually impaired. 2. The beep is nowhere near loud enough for the hearing impaired, and of course its high pitch is usually the first part of people's hearing. 3. The vibrator which should compensate for the 2 above is very weak when the device is worn on a belt etc. I had cell phones with stronger vibrators. 4. LEDs are low, appearing red. If you know this should be available you would think they know this color is difficult to see if you have vision problems. You should use bright white or blue instead. (Actually, blue is cheaper for them as it is the natural color of LED bulbs.) 5. The display is very difficult to see, and due to a design flaw, the screen appears and disappears due to uneven pressure on the LCD. Screen, unfortunately this is a design flaw and will require rework to fix, LCD screens don't like being "squashed", I was able to fix this by slightly loosening the screws on the unit. All in all it's one of the few such blocks I've been able to find and even with these minor bugs it works and we can work around these issues. For visually impaired people I would recommend someone use pink color to "mark" the switches.
