AFTER 6 months I gave up. I bought it as a pre-filter for a new water softener which I also bought and installed. I know how to work but I had to hire a plumber to install this SpinPure for me. Make sure you install shut-off valves on both sides, otherwise you will have to shut off the water supply and drain all water from the body/top of this filter. The real problem, however, is that this 40-micron mesh filter clogs after just a few days of normal use. The drain valve does NOT clean the filter, it only cleans any deposits that may have formed on the bottom of the glass housing. The water pressure drops significantly until you disassemble and clean the filter by hand. You have to close the valves, physically unscrew the glass housing, remove the filter, hand-rinse the filter in a bucket of water (remember you had to turn off the running water in your house to remove the filter housing), the cleaned Place the filter back into the glass housing, then screw the glass housing back onto the filter. I have to do this 2-3 times a week! Just make sure you wash your hands and sanitize the bucket first, otherwise you could get very sick from polluting the plumbing of your house. The device is well made, but not well thought out. The drain hose is short, made of expensive plastic, with a plastic thread, and leaks. The hose is not long enough to reach the bucket on the floor. I tried replacing the hose but couldn't find the thread or hose size at any local hardware store. So I'm stuck with this. Six months later I gave up on that block and ordered a competitor's filter block which is much more expensive but has a timer and really cleans itself. SimPure was expensive to install, and the drain hose is actually pretty useless, both in design and functionality. I couldn't find any tech support other than other buyers who couldn't help but find a replacement tube.
