I purchased this CPU two weeks ago and installed it right away out of sheer excitement. Recently I wanted to overclock it, but it overheated as soon as I started, so I stopped. However, I discovered that even in idle mode it gets fairly warm. I had a broken-things suspicion and was about to bolt for a new cooling system. But what I discovered when I lifted the lid astonished me: I had forgotten to connect the fans because I was in a rush to test out the new processor. He has been working nearly nonstop over the past two weeks, frequently at maximum speed while simply using passive cooling! Just a freak, I am! With an overclock to 3.2 and a cooler that is a little better than the basic one, it now heats up to a maximum of 45 degrees when the fans are connected.
