I bought this lens precisely because its focal length is equivalent to 40mm. If you've never photographed with a 40mm (equiv.) lens, you should note that it's closer to 35mm than 50mm in terms of frame setting. Wider, but not too much, and closer to the human eye than 35mm or 50mm (equiv.). This lens is fast for a GF lens and even sharp. The f/3.5 produces nicer bokeh than I expected and doesn't interfere with my creative process in any way. This lens is ideal for street or environmental portraits as well as studio work. The minimum focusing distance is the only downside to this lens, creatively it would be nice to get a little closer. Distortion isn't a problem, which is standard with all 40mm (equiv.) lenses. Vignetting is not a problem with this lens. The lens is also quiet and accurate. The price wasn't the deciding factor in my purchase decision, but it was an added bonus as it's cheap for a GF lens. All in all it was a worthwhile investment.
