This is very useful if you have bought a new MacBook and still have devices that connect via USB. You can get separate transducers, but you can't use two of them side by side because they're too wide. So it gives you the option of using both ports on the side of your laptop, and it also offers two USB ports, two Thunderbolt ports and card readers - very handy. I haven't run any performance tests, but none of them seem to slow down my peripherals when I use this. I have two spare drives and a laptop stand that I work on all the time and they all work great. The only thing I don't like is that they don't always stay fully connected - you have to re-enter every day. It doesn't come out all the way, just enough to show that it doesn't fit as perfectly as it should. As far as I can tell, this doesn't affect operation. This is a great little device unless you're ready to replace all your USB devices or buy new cables for everything. You also get a card reader, which Apple has removed from the new MacBooks, which is great if you're a photographer and your camera doesn't support Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. I definitely recommend it.
