Review on 🖥️ CKL HDMI KVM Switch 4 Port Dual Monitor Extended Display (Model CKL-942HUA) by Patrick Carlson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good DVM solution for using dual monitors between 4 PCs.

My old MiniView™ Extreme 4-Port Multimedia KVMP Switcher did a great job supporting 4 PCs even though it was designed for a single VGA monitor port (now obsolete). To upgrade my workstation, I bought a pair of LG 32-inch 4K monitors, which (like most modern monitors) had HTML and Dataport connectors (no VGA or DVI connectors). I've found that most (all?) 4K monitors don't support legacy VGA (so using VGA <=> HDMI adapter was out) so I had to replace my KVMP switcher. Since I have a USB capable Needed dual monitor between my 4 PCs, I found the CKL HDMI KVM 4 Port Dual Monitor Extended Display KVM Switch to fit my needs. In my research I found that most KVMs only support a single monitor and many still use VGA connectors. After narrowing my search to those that support HDMI (and USB) connections, only the dual-monitor CKL model came up (note that none of the KVM's came out when I looked for DataPort connections a year ago .) As an alternative to CKL, I was wondering if using two KVMs would be enough (a very basic model for simply switching a second monitor, and a model that also supports USB/Audio switching). However, the cost of such installations was almost the same as that of the CKL model. I was hesitant to choose the CKL model due to a significant number of reviews stating quality issues with KVM not working after just a few months and reports of USB issues, particularly in the mouse/keyboard area. I decided that my needs/desires outweighed the disadvantages mentioned, so I bought the device. For the most part, the CKL HDMI KVM Switch 4 Port Dual Monitor Extended Display (CKL-942HUA) worked. However, after about 5 months, I also encountered the mouse/keyboard issue that others have reported. This was mitigated by connecting the mouse and keyboard to a powered USB switch which I used for other external devices (webcams, external hard drive, USB cable to connect to phone). Due to wear and tear on the mouse, I replaced it with a new "gaming" mouse a month ago. I tried connecting this (and the keyboard) to KVM and everything worked again. No issues so far as it's been almost a year since I bought the LG and KVM monitors. Note: This is not a KVM issue, but those with similar needs/desires should keep in mind that many graphics cards/motherboards on older computers only have legacy VGA/DVI connectors, perhaps an HDMI connector. So I had to add/replace a few graphics cards with dual HDMI and/or DataPort and buy a couple of HDMI <=> DataPort adapters to get the desired dual monitor support on all my PCs.
