Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Optimize Vehicle Performance with MOOG K100132 Pinion Angle Adjusting Bolt by Robert Sisco

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Class 12.9 Bolt 16mm diameter x 110mm length

Moog K100132 Eccentric Bolt Kit: 1 bolt, 2 washers and 1 nut. Ordered 2 of these for the night and they arrived next day as expected. Revain did not list this item as compatible with my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500, however it was listed as compatible with a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500. To clarify, this actually matches the original factory lower cam bolts that were also used in the 1500's. To ensure this, it is best to measure the diameter of the existing screws. Kit K100132 contains 1 screw (with appropriate fasteners) 16mm diameter x 110mm long, grade 12.9 as vaguely shown in the pictures. Keep in mind that a lot of people say you can use any 5/8" class 8 bolt, which is very close to 16mm, if you need it for a short time. Some also argue that you should look for a class 10.9 metric 16mm model. Grade 12.9 is even better when the key factors are bolt hardness, minimum test strength and minimum tensile strength. The material used for grade 12.9 should be Q&T alloy steel (quenched and tempered) as opposed to grade 10.9 which should be low carbon Q&T martensitic steel (quenched and tempered). Different manufacturers give slightly different material data. I did not install these screws as I am still in the process of carving my originals thanks to the wonderful world of rust and 16 years of service. I am installing a lift kit that requires replacing the lower and upper control arms. To my surprise, after soaking them in PB-Blaster and WD-40 for a few days of prep work, the nuts weren't that difficult to remove from the bolts. However, the bolts were so poorly welded to the control arm inner bushings that no force with a 4-pound hammer or heating with a torch until red hot would allow them to move. Cutting is my only option so here we go! I will update this review after installing the screws and making sure the pickup can be properly aligned without damaging the screws as several people have stated. Knowing exactly which bolts to buy was a very important factor when looking for these hard to find parts as not many people could verify the correct part number for my pickup truck. Even on Moog's website it was a little unclear which one fits the 2001 and remember that if you have 1994 thru 1999 Ram 1500s they are most likely a different size (14mm). Check before you buy. I'm a bit disappointed with the tolerance between the bolt and washer as some say the fit isn't as tight as it should be. Roughly aligning the axle, I noticed that the screw turns easily without actually moving the washer, which certainly doesn't turn the axle. I would suggest that any decent trueing shop verify correct axle position rather than relying solely on a bolt/washer before tightening which will do 100% of the job. As for some of the comments I've read about MOOG bolts breaking during realignment, since a class 12.9 metric bolt has extremely high tensile strength, it must be sloppy work during alignment or over tightening and should not break easily. I will come back to complete my review once final alignment is complete.

Pros
  • Excellent Construction
Cons
  • Crumpled Packaging
