Review on Ibera Bike Rack Frame Mounted Adjustable Sports & Fitness for Cycling by Brian Delgado

Minor flaws but still very good value, with or without PakRak

UPDATE: I have received the lighting I ordered, the Blitzu Gator 390 set which also includes a rear light. It was incredible value for money and the lights work well. But more importantly, the taillight fits on the back of this pillar. I mistakenly thought that the taillight in this set would use a standard clip rather than a quick release, but it uses the same bracket as the front light. As it turns out, though, you can wrap the elastic around the back tongue like a glove. It's not as good as a properly screwed braces because I'm concerned the rubber will wear out over time, but for now it fits perfectly. So if you need lights for your bike and want to use this rack I highly recommend the Blitzu Gator 390. Check out the attached pictures to see how they fit. ORIGINAL: What an absolute steal for a quality rack. While there are several cheaper and more versatile alternatives, they all seem less supportive of heavier loads and of course that gets you a PakRak system if that's what you're looking for. Bought this trunk together with a PakRak trunk bag, there are defects. I gave the trunk a 4/5 due to a few of these shortcomings. I don't think I'll put an end to the trunk though because honestly it's hard to find a generic trunk of comparable quality at a lower price. So even if you never use a PakRak system, it's good value for money. A PakRak is just the icing on the cake, and it's in your pockets that you carry most of the extra costs. What worried me is the size. I have a 2017 Giant Escape 1, the frame size is small, and I've read and heard a number of times that the arms on the C-pillars need to reach further for smaller frames because the seatstay eyelets are relatively lower. Arm length is perfect on my bike. They're almost fully extended, but have enough headroom to know there's no danger of them slipping out. The bag also doesn't press against or under the saddle, as feared, and the pannier rack doesn't tilt forwards or backwards. So I didn't have any sizing issues with my small frame. That's not to say other bikes don't have sizing issues, but if your bike's geometry resembles that of the Giant Escape 1, which is a fairly typical city bike, then you shouldn't have a problem. on the Topeak MTX system because my bike doesn't have built-in fenders. The Topeak struts work effectively as a rear fender, which is a nice added bonus, but the Ibera PakRak struts don't. Instead, the bottom of the bag is a hard shell, so while the bag keeps your back clean and dry, it also carries debris around the house. It's not the end of the world and the PakRak system is a lot better at current prices, but it's something to keep in mind. One thing I find a bit awkward is the rear tab, which allows you to attach a reflector or light. It looks like there are some reflectors that can be installed without any additional hardware, and Ibera sells some lights that fit the pole natively. But choices are limited, and I wanted a specific taillight that uses a quick release mount rather than a standard clip. I also wanted the taillight to charge via USB. Ibera doesn't sell these lights so it looks like I'll have to make my own using parts I bought at a hardware store. I'm not sure why rack marketers are selling this as a big feature as there doesn't seem to be a standard for the different racks I was considering. To be honest, the most standard thing they could do would be to add a small portion of the stay in the rear so that the lights that are meant to be seatpost mounted (most of which appear to be) can be installed without a trailer hitch. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any racks with such a rack. Overall, this rack is fantastic value for money, and its minor flaws have more to do with the design of the PakRak system and rear foot than the build quality. This is currently one of the best luggage racks on the market, with good loading capacity and space to fit side cases and a top bag at the same time.
