Review on Ubiquiti UniFi Cloud Key Gen2 Plus (UCK-G2-PLUS), Individual by Robert Sorrells

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Upgrade from Gen 1

I have used many Ubiquiti products for both small and large businesses. I like the direction of their products. I really think Ubiquiti should work on consolidating airOS, Controller, Protect and various other Unifi software applications. Cloud Key Gen 2 seems like a step in the right direction, but a single "unified" interface for their product paradigm is achievable in my opinion. I have a 15 camera setup running at home and it works fine. I inherited them from a Unifi Video implementation that I also recently purchased. However, it was frustrating to install Unifi Video, only to find that Ubiquiti dropped Unifi's video solution instead of Protect. I've been writing large multidimensional systems for many years and I understand that sometimes you make architectural mistakes that require rewriting and it looks like this is one of those cases. I sympathize, but Ubiquiti needs to make it clear to anyone considering implementing Unifi Video at this stage, just don't do it, it's an incomplete solution that will likely never exist. I rated it four stars primarily because the seller paid $70 more than the MSRP. ---------------------Update: 5/31/2020 The device continues to work very well and the gas was very stable. Right now I have 18 cameras recording continuously at 15fps/3000kbps/1080p. Also, I should mention that I upgraded the drive to a 5TB 15mm HDD and got a little over two weeks of historical records. I have ordered two more dome cameras and will soon have 20 cameras on the unit. This G2+ also uses a Unifi network with 5 access points, 4 switches and around 80 always-on clients. Currently the stats are: 24% CPU / 60% memory usage / 99% HDD (It will always be like this) Chris
