Mismatched and finished

The chef's knife is the most important tool in every kitchen and is used in almost every dish. I knew the blade I chose made a difference and so I spend a lot of time researching to find the perfect balance between performance and price. When I discovered the Okami chef's knife, I hoped I'd found the perfect blade. That's what I liked about this knife. The price makes it a very affordable knife that won't break your budget. The blade has a nice curve that provides powerful swing when chopping and chopping. Fit, Feel and Performance. And it's impossible to ignore the impressive packaging that the knife comes in. This all goes to show why I ended up returning the knife. At first I was a bit surprised by the light weight of the blade. Granted I knew I wasn't going to get a meaty blade that had some weight and serious substance at this price point, but the weight of the knife made it seem like a lower quality product. Another issue I had with the knife was the general fit and finish of the product. Out of the box the handle had a few indentations, I was also disappointed with the finish of the handle as the aesthetic lines weren't sharp or clean. Now I understand that this may seem insignificant and petty. But since the packaging is so crisp and sharp, I was expecting a little more. To be honest, I would have preferred the brand to spend a little less on great packaging and instead devote additional financial resources to making sure the actual product has a clear, smudge-free finish. For the price, I felt I was better off going with my 7-inch Santoku knife, which I bought at Costco for $15.
