fun building; good quality, not a great design

Are toothpicks like axles in a clockwork? Metal axles should be used everywhere! Otherwise good quality. The frame design needs a little more rigidity. I think people have two problems with stopping clocks: 1) the toothpick axles and 2) the frame flexes when you put weights on it and this causes some mechanisms to jam. One of the reasons mine wasn't tighter was that I had to take it apart and reassemble it a few times because I did something wrong. I'll try a second build without disassembling or reassembling any parts to see if it works better. I could also try stainless steel rods and fancy metal axles. Oh, and one improvement that I think works well on other builds is to get rid of the candle wax and use a very soft (6B or 8B) graphite pencil for drawing (NOT charcoal, it's hard and the opposite of grease). ). Graphite is an excellent lubricant and you can get a pretty good coat of it with soft charcoal.

Pros
  • very good price
Cons
  • nothing
